What you own
Plain answers to "whose is it?" and "what if I leave?". The legal version is in our Terms of Service.
Yours
- Your domain. It stays registered to you, in your own registrar account. We never register or hold it in our name.
- Your words. The text on your site, including changes we write for you that you approve.
- Your photos and logo. Anything you send us or approve stays yours.
- Your site files. Take your site with you: ask any time and we send a working copy of your website files, free.
Ours
- The client portal and our tools that prepare, preview and publish your changes. You use them while you are a client.
If you leave
- We hand over a working copy of your site, ready to host anywhere.
- We help you point your domain wherever you want.
- No exit fee, no contract, and nothing to buy back.
We handle the switch, free
With your OK, we make the DNS change for you or walk you through it step by step. We keep your email working, and your current site stays up until you approve the new one. Most switches only need a DNS change, not a domain transfer. If your old provider registered your domain in its own name, see Get your domain back.
A note on photos
Stock photos that a previous provider licensed often can't move to a new site. When you go live we ask you to confirm the photos, logos and text are yours or that you have the right to use them. Not sure about a photo? Tell us and we will swap it.
Why is there a preview of my business?
We build previews to show local businesses what a faster, lower-cost website could look like, using only public facts about the business and its own photos. Each preview is written fresh. It is unlisted, hidden from search engines and carries no branding of ours. Nothing changes on your current website, and nothing happens unless you choose to go live.
If you don't go live, we delete the preview within 30 days after its free trial ends. Want it gone sooner? Email hello@SensibleSites.net with the subject "Remove my preview" and we take it down within 24 hours. See section 8 of our terms.
